Debra grew up in Downers Grove, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago. Her father, from Native American descent, was a successful chiropractic physician whose clientele included professional sports teams and sports figures who sought relief in what was then viewed as a non-mainstream alternative medical field. Debra was exposed to the holistic healing benefits of the therapies used in her father's healthcare profession. The homeopathic approach made a lifelong impression. After graduating from the dental hygiene program at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois, Debra moved to Boca Raton, Florida, a community renowned for its affluence and home of many therapeutic spas. In the Florida sun, she lived and worked as a dental hygienist in the Boca community. In 1984, Debra developed the initial concept of 'Spa Dentistry'.
